While prepping this blog post, I could not stop squealing to myself, “Oh I cannot WAIT for them to see these!!” (Just ask my husband, I really was. He heard every word and thought I was a crazy person). From start to finish, Amy and Drew have been my dream couple. Beginning with their fun and colorful engagement session at Georgetown , and now culminating with the most joyful, happy wedding day, I could not be more honored and thrilled to have captured their love story during this season of their life!
The weather had been playing tricks on us all day – we weren’t sure if it ever was actually going to start raining on us or not! We felt a few drops here and there, but otherwise we really lucked out with the most perfect fall day in downtown DC. We took portraits in front of the White House, and these two strolled hand in hand down to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building – which sounds super boring but is actually the most gorgeous European-reminiscent palace! The leaves on the trees were the perfect shade of orange, and the skies were muted and overcast. It was all just the perfect formula for some of my new favorite portraits.
There were so many favorite moments for me. I loved getting to Amy’s hotel room and having Amy – the bride herself – tell me she liked my hair. That made me laugh – of all people who should be complimenting me on their wedding day! I felt inspired right away as I began photographing Amy and Drew’s invitation suite; knowing Amy had designed them herself and took care and attention to detail challenged me to photograph her skills as best I could! Then there was the sweetest little flower girls who just could not WAIT to see their Aunt Amy in her wedding dress. They stood side-by-side as Amy rounded the corner and they gasped in delight at how pretty and spectacular she looked. I usually tear up at weddings at some point – sometimes it’s when the maid of honor gives a touching speech for the father of the bride cries as he walks her down the aisle. But this time I couldn’t help but swell with honor as, moments after Amy and Drew shared a First Look alone, Amy asked Drew if he was glad they had done their First Look of each other prior to the ceremony. Tears welled up in my eyes as he said what I want for every couple of mine: “Yes! So happy!” He mentioned all the tension of the day as he waited to see her, and now that they were together they could relax again!
I have to admit that one of my other favorite parts about Amy and Drew’s wedding day was their First Dance and their BAND!! Holy cow, they were amazing. I have never heard a live band have the same rhythm and ability to keep the crowd happy and the tunes rolling just like a DJ does!! They were so much fun. Who am I kidding? This whole day was so much fun!! Amy & Drew have just returned from their honeymoon to Hawaii and I am so happy I finally get to share this post with them and relive their wedding day just as I have been able to as I edit it! This is probably the fastest I have edited a full wedding just because all the images made me so happy!!
