Maci and Zach have the kind of love that can only come from time-tested trials and life throwing curve balls at you! They met during college – in the middle of finals week, nonetheless! – and they’ve been together ever since their first date in December 5 years ago! Zach moved to DC from Texas for a job, while Maci stayed in Texas to finish her Masters program. This meant they spent two and a half years living half a country away from each other. Maci assures me, though, that this time apart only made them feel even closer together. “We learned to value every moment that we are lucky enough to share, and to always appreciate the little gestures of love.”
It was during one of their visits together that Zach flew into Texas, took Maci to the highest point in the city, and asked her to marry him. Of course she said yes! They are now both living in DC together, and just a few short months from their wedding day. Their ceremony will be elegant and quiet, surrounded by family and friends at the DC War Memorial. I shot Katie + Scott’s wedding there, and am completely obsessed with the simple beauty of this memorial.
I got to meet Maci and Zach at the Smithsonian during my last visit to DC. They were even kind enough to let me bring Mirabelle along for the ride! She hung out in her stroller while we walked around in the warm, spring weather on Mother’s Day. I loved watching the way these two look at each other, like there is nothing in this world that makes either one of them happier! I’m thrilled to be able to capture their wedding day in just a few shorts months!!
