It is always such a joy for me to reconnect with past couples whose weddings I shot. I love to see the way their love has changed since they’ve settled into the married life. They tend to appear more confident in being wrapped up in each other, or more easily make each other laugh and smile. They have an underlying groundwork of inside jokes, support, and deeper friendship.
Maria and Seth are not new faces to this blog! As I mentioned, I photographed their Washington DC Temple wedding a few years ago. I’m realizing that each session with them, we have dealt with at least a little rain! Their wedding day drizzled just enough to make the grounds wet. I also photographed their anniversary session at the Howard County Conservancy (and they even brought along their sweet pup), and we enjoyed a huge rainbow after a small drizzle! It was a magical session! Well this year, true to our pattern, we were met with a complete downpour on the day of their session. So we decided to do something a bit different and shoot inside the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC! It was such a unique location, and we had fun with incorporating the architecture, lighting, and art into their photos and poses (although, of course this meant they had to leave sweet Gigi at home, so he was missed for this round!)
We didn’t stay inside the whole time, either. We did venture out onto the steps in front of the museum, and even lingered under a tree for a few shots before we were quickly drenched. The rain didn’t dampen their spirits, and it certainly only contributed to the fun of their session! I am so glad we didn’t reschedule, but instead used the poor weather to push us to think outside the box!
