North Carolina Wedding Photographer | An Annapolis Wedding

Carrie + Andrew

Do you remember Carrie and Andrew? They had the sweetest early morning sunrise engagement session during the Cherry Blossom Festival in DC. I have been looking forward to working with them again ever since then! They are sweet, kind, and adorable together. They are actually best friends with my lovely Kathryn + Eric. All of them met in high school and hung out then – and they still hang out now! Isn’t that just the best? It seemed so sentimental to see them all together for this special occasion.

Their Wedding Day

When I knocked on the door to their hotel room on the morning of their wedding, I was surprised to see Andrew’s face greeting me on the other side. They had decided to get ready together that morning. While Andrew and his two groomsmen tied ties and laced shoes in one room, Carrie and her sister and new sister-in-law applied mascara and curled hair in the other room. When it was time for Carrie to put her dress on, everyone but myself and my second shooter, Nicole, left. She wanted only Andrew to see her in her dress before the ceremony began. Carrie quickly and quietly zipped and tied herself up, and then we were off.

Andrew was waiting for her at the State Capitol building in downtown Annapolis. That day was not only hot, but it was crowded. Annapolis was prepping for its annual boat show and the traffic was nuts! Luckily Nicole was able to drop both Carrie and I off. As soon as Carrie and Andrew were back together again, all was right. They were ready.

We scampered around State Circle for portraits, avoiding the crowds at the docks but still wanting to capture the essence of downtown Annapolis. It was the perfect little getaway before returning to the Loews Hotel for their ceremony!

They both took deep breaths as Carrie walked down the aisle, arm in arm with her dad. They both smiled from ear to ear as they place those rings on one another’s finger. And they both celebrated with wide open eyes and grins as they walked back down the aisle as husband and wife. Now it was time to party!

The Reception

I have to admit, Carrie and Andrew’s reception was my favorite part of their day. I felt like this was the time that I really saw who they are as a couple. I was photographing their cute cake toppers when Carrie came over to me and admitted that she had MADE them herself! They are sooo adorable!! They also had – literally – the BEST sugar cookies I have ever put into my mouth. Like, I still daydream about them and wish I had taken a dozen home with me and eaten them slowly. Carrie is an elementary school teacher, and another cute addition to one of their tables was the papers from her students with the question “What is love?” and all their little answers.

Carrie and Andrew’s first dance began slow (as they usually do), but halfway through they kicked it into high gear and even had a little head bang or two. Them and their entire crew were FUN dancers. They played the best songs (Thanks to Santana!) and rocked out every single one. A favorite song came on halfway through a group portrait with Nicole and every single one of them burst into singing the lyrics at full blast. They didn’t hold back and I love that!

These two are such a wonderful pair to be around. I loved every second with them and think they are just made for each other!
