The last time I was able to photograph Kim and her beautiful daughters, we were both on the East Coast, still living in Maryland. Since that last session, Kim has gone through a complete life change. She has had to reinvent herself, her identity as a now-single mother, and start over from the ground up. I can’t imagine how difficult of a transition that must have been on her and her children, but I have admired her from afar for her courage to make that first step, and her sheer grit to continue to persevere even when times got hard. Meeting up with her once again, after so much growth and changes occurred, was inspiring to me. She had a new light about her, one that shouted confidence and independence. One that said she now put herself and her girls first, and that she knew she was capable of doing whatever it takes to give them and herself all that they deserve.
Kim even brought a new beau with her! He was gentle and caring with Kim, polite and kind to me, and the girls clearly adored him. I started our session off with poses of just Kim and the girls, and they kept asking when it was going to be his turn to hop in on the family photo! Taking these photos for Kim, capturing this new life she leads, and providing physical proof of her having come full-circle, was such a wonderful gift to give to her. Kim, I hope you know what a wonderful example you are to your girls of a woman doing what’s right for herself and her family, even when it’s scary and there are so many unknowns, and coming out on top after it all. I hope things and life always turn out for the better for you; maybe not exactly how you always imagine them to be, but always just as they should be.
