She thought they were just having Christmas card photos taken, but Sawyer had another idea in mind.
She had no idea that Sawyer and I had been communicating for a few weeks now, planning out the perfect proposal for her. We discussed time, location, and what our signal would be for when he was ready to pop the question!
On the day of their session, I was so excited and so nervous, my mouth was dry and cotton-y. I had to keep talking or else I was worried I would mess up the surprise – so I just kept asking them question after question. Over the past few weeks, I had come to know that Sawyer was a great guy who really wanted a special surprise for Sara. In just a few moments with Sara, I could see why. She was a pure delight, the absolute brightest personality, smile, and charm. The session flowed great, despite my nerves (and I’m sure Sawyer’s nerves, as well). After we had walked around the cutest little tree farm in Cashiers, North Carolina, for awhile, and got great photos, Sawyer gave me the cue. I told Sara I wanted to take a few pictures of just her, and Sawyer wandered off to go “decorate” one of the nearby trees with cute ornaments he had brought.
Sara was a gem and went along with my crazy amount of photographing just her by herself; I used all my best solo poses trying to give Sawyer as much time as he needed. When he walked back to us, I told them to hold hands, and walk towards me so that I could catch her reaction to the decorations. She was so fun, she even started skipping towards the tree – she was excited even BEFORE she saw what it said.
It was the best moment ever!!! I think I was more nervous to photograph this than I ever have been to photograph a wedding day!! I just did not want to be the one to mess up the surprise and hard work that Sawyer had put into planning this!! Him and I both were relieved once she finally had that ring on her finger! These two are going to make the most GORGEOUS bride and groom, and I couldn’t be happier for them!
