When I saw that the United Conference was going to be sponsoring a workshop dedicated to learning about and practicing a “First Look” between a bride and groom on their wedding day, I just knew I had to be a part of it. “First Look” sessions are something I whole-heartedly believe in and encourage all my couples to do before the ceremony. It is such an intimate, fun moment to be shared before the rest of their family and friends see them. Plus, it gives us time to capture genuine portraits of just the two of them without feeling rushed or like we are making people wait on us. It really is a win/win situation for everyone involved.
And then, as soon as I realized the breakout session would be run by Abby Grace Photography, I was completely won over. I am a huge fan of her work….and even though she lives just 40 minutes away in DC, it took us both flying to Arizona for us to meet!
Kara and Jason were seriously the sweetest couple ever to work with. While this was not a completely “first” First Look, since Kara and Jason have been married for awhile now ….it WAS Jason’s first glance at Kara after being glitzed up by the hair and make-up artists. So his surprise at her makeover is genuine and totally melt-worthy! We did two run throughs of the First Look – one so we could have a change photographing Jason’s reaction to Kara, and then again at a later point so we could have a turn photographing the “Bride’s” reaction. The second time Kara and Jason’s acting skills kicked into high gear and all 20 photographers were giggling at their perfect facial expressions and Jason’s line: “You STILL look so good!”
Since learning a bit more about Jason and Kara and seeing how they interact with each other and their industry peers, I’ve discovered their light, their love for each other and everyone else, and their joy is truly something to emulate and an example I look up to! ….Plus, Kara is a serious babe, nevermind the fact that she’s had three babies!
There was another couple at this session, but I decided to give each couple their own blog post because their styles and the way they interacted with each other were so unique that it just didn’t feel right to mesh them both into the same post! So be looking for images of Kristen and Michael next week!
The vendors for this styled shoot were absolutely incredible and I am so thrilled I got the chance to photograph their work!
