Planning for Carrie and Andrew’s engagement session was a little bit tricky – that’s because we knew we wanted to time it for the peak of cherry blossoms in DC! Since I would be driving to DC from North Carolina, we had to be vigilant about checking the blossom updates online! We agreed on keeping two different dates open for the session, and then…we waited. A quick warm weather spell pushed the blossoms up and a few days later I was driving back to the Nation’s capital! I could not wait to capture another DC cherry blossom engagement session, and knew that it would be just as beautiful as my last one!

Carrie and Andrew met in high school, but were just friends for awhile before they started dating. Once they decided to take their relationship a little more seriously, they maintained a two-year long-distance relationship while Sarah completed her teaching degree. Then, this past New Year’s eve, they sat quietly together on the couch, just the two of them, and went month by month, remembering all of the big milestones they shared that previous year. They were watching the ball drop when Andrew asked Carrie to marry him in the last 10 seconds of 2018. Carrie’s response? “Easy yes.”

We met right at sunrise, and began photographing while the sky was still changing from blues to pink. We wanted to make sure we avoided at least a little bit of the crowds that are so prevalent during Cherry Blossom season! While we had timed the peak blossoms perfectly, we ufortunately did not have the weather on our side. Luckily, Carrie and Andrew came prepared with a clear umbrella and we made the wind and rain work for us. They totally rocked this session!! I loved that after I had them practice their first dance together, they told me that they would be starting dance lessons together so they would be sure to “know what they were doing” for their REAL first dance. I thought that was such a sweet way for them to spend time together before the wedding day. There are so many stressful things involved with planning a wedding, and this seemed like a wonderful way to prepare for the big day while still enjoying their time together!
