Hi, I'm meghan

It’s almost painful for me to write those words….but yes, it’s true – I’m going sugar free for at least the rest of this month. I’ve reached a point where enough is enough and I’m mentally ready to take it on! This is not my first time going sugar free, or even my first time experimenting with eating habits (a few summers ago I went vegan for a month, just to try it. In middle school/high school, I went like, 4 or 5 years without eating donuts, because I knew they were bad for me. Turns out, there are a lot of donuts involved in school activities).

I’ve thought about doing this several times in the last six months, but every time I’d start, I’d be stuffing my face again by the end of the day. It was definitely an emotional trigger for me, and I finally just allowed myself to go through that phase for awhile. But now that I’ve given myself a bit of leeway, I’m feeling more confident in my self-control! I’m ready to give it up. I know myself – I know that my sweet tooth is so intense that “moderation” is not really an option for me. If I have it in my system, I crave it fiercely! If I can get out of the habit, by completely purging myself of that craving, then I know I’ll be far better off!

I also think that now that I am starting to get into longer distances with my training for the half marathon I’m running in June, my whole mentality has changed about my body. I’m starting to want to take care of it better, to give it the things I need to recover, to grow stronger, to push harder. Plus, I want to see my hard work actually pay off instead of burning those calories, only to have them added back on in the form of unnecessary treats!

On top of being more physically active, Adam and I both have been emotional lately! While many factors have been involved with that, we talked about it last night and agreed that our eating habits have not been contributing to our overall mental health, either. We eat too much junk food, have too many sweets, allow our kids too many sweets, and don’t eat enough fruits or vegetables. We’ve agreed that eating healthier as a family will improve moods for everyone!

It’s not that I don’t like fruits and vegetables, it’s just become a case of laziness, I think. Preparing fresh, clean meals takes time and I don’t have a lot of free time on my hands. I’ve decided I’ll be doing more freezer meals, so I have healthy things at the ready (especially for breakfast! Breakfast is my downfall, and then the rest of the day just spirals out of control from there!).

Last night I made one of my all-time favorite desserts – homemade cinnamon rolls. I allowed myself a feasting before the fasting! And now I have almost a whole pan of cinnamon rolls to giveaway 🙂
If you have any awesome, quick and healthy breakfast or dinner recipes, please tell! If you want to join me on my month of sugar free, well…misery loves company 🙂 Or you can just be my cheerleader, eating my left-over cinnamon rolls on the sidelines!
