The weather was predicted to be gorgeous – warm, sunny, and clear. I had a big bag of film waiting to be used. They were ready and willing….so we made it happen! Melissa had commented before that she really wanted to do an anniversary session with me sometime, so these two were at the top of my mind when all these stars aligned. I hopped into their car with them and once again, drove up to my own little Lake Mountain. We chatted as we drove the short distance, and then walked to different spots, finding the last of the yellow sage brush before the cool weather took it all away.
Melissa seemed embarrassed to admit that her and Ben had met online, but I reminded her that perhaps that was a unique way to meet your future spouse several years ago, when they had first started dating, but it wasn’t very rare anymore. I asked Ben to tell me their proposal story, and it went a little something like this – It was Melissa’s birthday, and Ben had given her a ring. Not an engagement ring, mind you, but he had told her to wear that one until she got the “real” ring. This through Melissa off, but she quickly learned she wouldn’t have to wait long at all for the real deal. Before the night was over, Melissa had THE ring on her finger. Ben had taken her back to the place where they both first realized that they loved one another – temple square.
These two were natural together during their session, but the best part is – I knew they weren’t just putting on a show for me. I knew from the way Melissa talked about Ben or wrote about him on her posts, that they were always kind and loving to each other. That that was just the way they worked.
When I shared a sneak peek of these two on my Instagram account, Melissa reposted it with this caption:
“I choose you! And I’ll choose you over and over and over. Without pause, without doubt, in a heartbeat. Ill keep choosing you. ❤ There is nothing better than finding someone you can’t help but to fall in love with them over and over again every single day….”
This is the kind of reaction I hope all my couples have when they see their anniversary photos!! Reading this made me so happy and reconfirmed to me the value of what I do and what couples do when they take the time for anniversary sessions!
