Sunset Rock in Highlands, North Carolina is an easy-to-get-to lookout - and, just as the name promises, offers a great sunset location!

This spot does require a 15-20 minute walk up a gravel dirt road. It is easy, but does require good walking shoes and a bit more time built into the session!

Sunset rock

A few tips for making a session at Sunset Rock in Highlands, North Carolina easier for everyone!
- Don't worry about the weather until the day before! The forecast is hardly ever right a week ahead of time. We will make the final call about weather the evening before our session. I will try to make the best decision possible for the best outcome of your photos, but I cannot guarantee the conditions the day of.
- Be prepared for colder temps at the top! Bring layers and/or a jacket to take on and off in between photos.
- Wear shoes you can hike in! We can always change in and out of other shoes for photos.
- If we are doing a sunset session, we will be hiking back down when it's starting to get dark. Bring a flashlight or make sure your phone is charged enough to use the flashlight on your phone!
- Cell phone service is not always reliable. I will wait 30 minutes at the trailhead. If I don't see you by then, I will leave the location to get cell phone service and call you.
- Because Sunset Rock is not in a National Park, dogs are allowed on the trail. Keep in mind if you decide to bring your pup,  this means there might be other dogs around!
