A few weeks ago I was privileged to shoot under the wonderful Laura Hagood of Laura Hagood Photography. Laura took photos of my son, Rhenner, just minutes after he was born. This time, however, it was her that was pregnant and I got to help her out at the most beautiful backyard wedding. I felt truly lucky to be a part of this wedding with Laura! It was my first time being a second shooter at a wedding and I learned so much! It’s always fun to see how other photographers interact and pose their clients, but I also learned what it feels like to be the assistant! Now I know how my second shooter, Sarah, feels on wedding days!
It felt so intimate to be photographing Lauren getting ready for her wedding day in her very own home. I could almost feel the memories surrounding me! Lauren is an only child and it was immediately clear just how special she is to her parents. They are obviously proud of their daughter and happy to be gaining a new son! Lauren’s mom and maid-of-honor helped her into her dress, and, as they were placing her veil on her head, she watched out the window as her groom walked up the steps to their home. I think that’s when it sunk in for everyone: Today was the day they would be promising the rest of their lives to each other!
Lauren’s dad came in just before the ceremony was about to begin to kiss her and to okay his outfit with her, and then everyone got into their places for the vows! After a beautiful ceremony with a rose ritual, in which Joe promised to give Lauren a rose every year on their anniversary, the reception began. All of the details were so. much. fun. From the canoe filled with ice and drinks to a BREAKFAST BAR for their reception dinner, I couldn’t get enough! Everyone was served omelettes, donuts, waffles, bacon, sausage, and orange juice. I definitely think this was my favorite reception meal ever!!
The dancing started up quickly and the party stayed alive all through the night. Lauren and Joe have some seriously fun friends who know how to groove! I was laughing during all the line dances because everyone was so into it and just having a blast. I love receptions like that! As the stars came out and the music wore on, I knew this marriage would be one that “starts with breakfast and never ends.”
I just have to give this sweet woman a shout out! I totally forgot my light stand so she willing held this flash up for me for several songs in a row so I could take awesome dance photos. She even got someone to help her out when the flash got heavy. She was hilarious and so wonderful. I appreciated her help and kindness tremendously!!
