I had the privilege of shooting Cara and Sander’s Annapolis wedding two years ago. Not only did we meet the president of the United States out on the golf course that day, (now you HAVE to go check out that link, right??), but we also witnessed a seventeen-year-long love become a family. Now their family is growing from the two of them, to include baby boy. I am so happy to have kept in touch with Cara since their wedding day and to watch her belly and love grow these past few months as they wait for their little one’s arrival. It made me even more excited when Cara reached out to me about shooting their maternity photos while I was visiting Maryland. It is always such a special opportunity for me to photograph my past brides as they become mothers themselves. I love being a small part of the fruition of their love story – the continuation of the journey that I witnessed begin. It is proof to me that the purpose of wedding photography is not just in the details and the day of the wedding, but in sharing that day with generations to come.
This session had so many reflections on their engagement session and their wedding day: scrabble tiles, the bridge over the water, a weeping willow. It is fun when we get to “recreate” photos from the past, to now include all the exciting things of the present and to see how far they’ve come. We were blessed with the most perfect fall weather. I loved coming to Maryland in November – it was the peak of fall colors, and I got to experience leaves changing colors in both Utah and Maryland!
I am now anxiously awaiting news of little boy’s arrival, which is now only a few weeks away! Cara is just glowing that maternal beauty already, and I know these two are going to make such a great team as parents.
