I met this sweet family when we lived in Crofton a few years ago. Sarah and I worked together with the Young Women in our ward. I loved their perfectly balanced family of 2 girls and 2 boys, and their devotion to each other and their God.
This session was much anticipated for both of us, especially after a few schedule conflicts put it off longer than expected. This was my first time shooting film for non-personal work, and combining digital and film in the same session. I loved it! I didn’t shoot any of the family on film, but instead took these two lovely parents aside at each different location we went to and shot just the two of them on film. It worked out so perfectly! This has really helped me understand how I can make this transition (from shooting families to only shooting couples) work for my blogging and my business! I love the anticipation of waiting for my film scans to come back, and I love that these images are separate from the ones I took of the whole family because it really gave me the time to view these two as a couple, man and a woman who fell in love and made their entire family possible.
I have a friend who recently said, “I was a girlfriend before I was a wife, and a wife before I was a mother. It’s time to remember that.”
I thought of BJ and Sarah when I read that – they were just the two of them before they were parents. The journey is beautiful, isn’t it?
