“I wanted the shoot to be reminiscent of a young, innocent love grown in a forest and harvested over a single summer. We wanted to include Jesse Tuck’s authentic, antique, care-free, and wild side, with touches of Winnie Foster’s classic style, and cinch it all together with the feeling that time would never end. We achieved this with a bouquet that looked swept from the forest grounds, a cake set-up that seemed to pop up from within the ferns themselves, custom-made pearl jewelry, lavender water-color invitations, a unique etched glass jewelry box to signify the music box that plays an important role in the movie, an antique dress with a full button-up back (that was found at a consignment shop, bought before the model could try it on, and miraculously fit her like a glove!) and of course – by shooting on film. Kilgore Falls is a very popular swimming spot in the summer, so we made sure the shoot happened right away in the morning – with hair and make-up starting at 5:30am! We shot the cake and table set-up as fast as we could, then hiked the half mile to the falls.”
One year ago I was frolicking through the trails of Rocks State Park, realizing what it felt like to see a vision of mine come to life. Realizing what it felt like to make a dream reality. This shoot was one that I had shoved to the back of my mind thinking, “Nah, that wouldn’t really work….” but always, another voice tiptoed around the corner: “But….don’t you think….just maybe it could?”
I finally listened to that smaller, more timid voice. I gave that voice a chance and put her at the center of the stage instead of the voice that said You can’t. You can’t. You can’t.
This shoot produced images I will forever compare the rest of my work to. Does it give me life? Does it make me happy? Is it beautiful in its simplicity and rawness?
I can’t take credit for what happened in the forest and waterfall that day. I didn’t make this happen by myself, I’ll tell ya that much. Nah, all I did was make the idea a possibility, and then took the pictures to prove to the rest of the world that it really happened.
