When is the best time of year for family photos in Franklin

Franklin is beautiful during every season, but a few times of year stand out.

• Fall from late September to early November is very popular for the color
• Late spring from May to June has mild weather and bright greens
• Early fall in September has golden light and warm evenings

Families with younger children sometimes prefer earlier start times, and I always plan sessions around the best light.

How do you help kids stay happy during the session

Kids do best when they feel free to be themselves. I use prompts, games, and simple movement to help them settle in. I never expect perfect smiles or stillness from little ones. Breaks help, snacks help, and letting them explore helps even more. Giving a toddler a small job can work wonders. That might mean holding a flower, looking for a rock, or helping me “test” the light. When kids feel involved, the whole session feels easier.

How long does a session usually take

Most family sessions in Franklin last about 60 to 90 minutes. This gives us enough time to ease into things, walk around a bit, and get a wide variety of images without rushing.

 

A Real Family Session in Franklin North Carolina

I met the Swank family at their home in Franklin, and right away it felt like stepping back into a familiar place. I had photographed Noah’s senior photos the year before, so seeing the entire family again felt warm and comfortable.

And yes, the beautiful woman standing right in the center really is a grandmother. She is gentle, patient, and full of love. Her two year old grandson kept all of us moving, and the way she cared for him created the sweetest atmosphere. You can feel that kind of love in photos. It sets the tone for everything.

The girls are triplets, and they were such a joy. They showed me their ponies, their cat, and the family dog as we wandered around the yard and driveway. A few raindrops tried to interrupt the afternoon, but the clouds drifted off quickly and we continued without any stress. After some time at the house, we made a short drive to Standing Indian Campground.

The field we found was surrounded by tall green trees and had plenty of room for their little one to run around. At one point he even took a turn with my camera. His smile during that moment was unforgettable. The camera was almost as big as he was, but he carried it like he had been doing it for years. It was one of my favorite moments of the entire session.

These are the kinds of memories I love to help families hold onto. Not stiff posing. Not anything forced. Just real connection and the small moments that truly matter.
